Assistant Finance Manager

This role is an important part of the Finance team who strive to facilitate, to help and support the Group business.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for Financial Reporting and Control aspects of the business. You will ensure that the finance function supports, measures, reviews and appropriately challenges on financial aspects of AICL.

The role is suited to a qualified finance professional with some previous managerial experience. You will bring a background in financial accounting, control and/or audit, Ideally with experience in the insurance sector and a familiarity with insurance accounting standards.

The role will require liaison with other departments within Saga and with key external partners and stakeholders. As such, you must demonstrate an ability to adopt a manner of conduct appropriate to the situation and audience.

Role Responsibility

  • Ensuring quality, accuracy and timeliness of all outputs; ensuring adherence to all relevant deadlines
  • Ensuring finance processes adopted are robust, reliable and efficient
  • Ensuring that the demands of the team’s customers and effectively managed, prioritised, tracked and delivered to specification, with the aim of exceeding expectations whilst not wasting resource unnecessarily
  • Communicating and ensuring compliance with the Group corporate governance policies and procedures where relevant
  • Compliance with all accounting standards, accounting policies and accounting principles appropriate to the Saga Group, and where relevant to the role
  • Liaison with external and internal auditors, as required by the role
  • Taking responsibility for key work tasks
  • Work output expected to be of a high standard, rigorously checked, evidenced and reconciled appropriately
  • Coordinating with key external partners and stakeholders
  • Responsibility for ensuring regulatory returns are completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Financial analysis of potential partners and suppliers and performance of all due diligence processes as required

The Ideal Candidate

Capability, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Demonstrable competence of working at an Assistant Finance Manager level
  • Strong technical accounting skills and awareness of control processes
  • Familiarity and experience with dealing with insurance related accounting and bordereaux files
  • Experience in a sizeable (1,000+ employees) organisation, ideally a plc desirable
  • Able to demonstrate competence in Financial reporting, and delivery of tangible outputs
  • Excellent personal effectiveness and time management skills, such as task and diary management, work and project planning, file and record keeping (physical and electronic)
  • Able to work as a team and capable of delivering objectives under pressure
  • A professional approach and a high regard for confidentiality

Education and Qualifications:

  • Graduate level or equivalent
  • Qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA Accountant with post qualified experience.

  • High integrity and objectivity capable of selling ideas and implementing change
  • Analytically strong with the ability to challenge and think outside the box
  • Possess an inquisitive mind, and be able to identify anomalies or inconsistencies and pursue these through to a resolution
  • Able to work independently without constant oversight
  • Able to establish credibility, winning the respect and co-operation of colleagues, including Department Heads and Directors
