At Saga, we are building a ground-breaking media business and now need an exceptional Audience Development Manager to join our growing team.

The Audience team is accountable for growing Saga Media’s digital audience across multiple platforms, including our content publishing website, social media channels, and newsletters. As the Audience Development Manager, you will shape an engaging and exciting content strategy by combining your natural instincts and understanding of makes good content with data analysis and translation.

You will be working with a large editorial team that focuses on Homes and Fitness & Wellbeing content, supporting them with content ideation, structure and planning to bring their Sections to life.

Your key responsibility will be shaping the strategy for these Sections by capitalising on successes and scoping new areas based on what you come to learn the audience wants. 

Exceptional SEO skills are essential for this role as driving audience from search engines is our core focus. We also want to build a strong direct audience of engaged readers and grow our newsletter readership, and so the ability to analyse data to understand what works for different channels is also key. As part of the formative team, you will be confident in your knowledge, but excited by the prospect of learning and flexing your existing understanding to provide this audience with the very best content that they want to read.

** Remote/home working ** With a hybrid approach requiring some team days in one of our London / Kent / Wiltshire offices. You will need to be within a reasonable commuting distance to undertake this role.

Role Responsibility

You will be supporting the Head of Audience Development by taking on direct line management of the Audience Development Executive, continuing their training and coaching them to deliver robust keyword research, competitor analysis, audits, and reporting. 

Your focus will be SEO and driving audience from search engines, but we also want to drive a strong direct audience of engaged readers and grow our newsletter readership.

Your key areas of responsibilities will be;

  • Executing content strategies to drive digital audience growth
  • Planning and delivering content plans and structures
  • Using analytics tools to discern reader needs *
  • Championing SEO across the business, including training editorial team on key aspects of search quality raters guidelines and principles such as E-E-A-T
  • Championing quality editorial, balancing Google’s Search and EAT guidelines with audience interest and needs

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a content strategist with the ability to develop and grow the digital audience.

You’ll will be working closely with our editorial experts across Saga, so it is essential you can communicate the core content strategy to include SEO principles and our market insight.

You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Have previously worked in a similar role, ideally within a media/ publishing company
  • Can evidence experience in growing website audiences. (Experience with a new website launch would be desirable.)
  • Can demonstrate a strong understanding of relevant tools* used in the role – particularly analytics and SEO software
  • Exceptional knowledge of SEO, including algorithms and principles such as E-E-A-T
  • A good knowledge of social media platforms
  • A good knowledge of analytics and dashboarding tools
  • Affiliate marketing experience
