Deputy Data Protection Officer

Salary up to £75,000 per annum 

Permanent

FT – 35 hours per week

** Remote/home working allowed ** With a hybrid approach requiring some team days in our London office. You will need to be within a reasonable commuting distance to undertake this role.

We are looking for a Deputy Data Protection Officer to join our data protection team. We have exciting plans on the horizon for the future data protection team, and you will be working with our expert DPO, who will support you on your career journey.

You will assist Saga’s Data Protection Officer across the group, ensuring full compliance with data protection legislation as well as providing expert advice and guidance on the Data Protection Act 2018, General Data Protection Regulation, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulation and the E-Privacy Regulation.

You will oversee and maintain compliance standards for all Group companies; Saga Insurance, Saga Travel, Saga Cruise and Saga Enterprise, in accordance with recommended best practice.   

Role Responsibility

Joining us as the Deputy Data Protection Officer, you will be accountable for the following; 

  • Consistently following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence.
  • Assisting the Data Protection Officer in the production of the quarterly data protection report. Focussing on status of compliance and risks to senior management, Boards and Committees.
  • Approve, maintain and implement all data protection policies, procedures and privacy notices across the Saga Group.
  • Prepare and deliver Group-wide training on data protection compliance. Where required provide tailored training on specific topics to relevant business divisions (adopting a risk-based approach).
  • Provide advice and guidance on the statutory requirements of relevant data protection legislation to be included in contracts and data sharing agreements.
  • Help to develop the creation of a network of Data Protection Champions across the Group of companies.
  • Consult on / review Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) and Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIA). 
  • Log and guide the business on all Data Protection incidents/breaches. Undertaking investigations of each case reported. Report to the ICO, if deemed necessary.
  • Work with internal/external auditors to monitor status of compliance, identifying risks and issues.

The Ideal Candidate

As an organisation we manage data of millions of our customers, therefore you will need to demonstrate the following skills, experience and qualifications.

  • Have been exposed to the full responsibility of Data Protection for a large organisation.
  • Ideally have worked in a heavily regulated operation, such as financial, insurance / claims or travel business.
  • Be commercially aware and up to date with all the latest data protection legislation.  
  • Can provide succinct advice across all levels of a large organisation.
  • Can work independently and at precision pace.
  • Be resilient, with high level organisational skills.
  • Work to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Have the ability to draft formal documentation and exercise independent judgement.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally ISEB (Information Systems Examination Board) Certificate or IAPP qualified
  • An Insurance /Claims background would be advantageous
