In this role you will be accountable for establishing a group wide procurement function, identifying opportunities across the business to consolidate supply and procurement arrangements and always seek to deliver the best value contract arrangements and efficiency in our internal processes.

You will have demonstrable experience in promoting a culture of commercial awareness and will work with key stakeholders across the business to identify opportunities to drive value, reduce costs, improve efficiency and maximise contribution.

Role Responsibility

  • Work with the Business Unit Procurement and Purchasing leads to identify supply arrangements that cross over various parts of the Group and develop a Groupwide process for getting best efficiencies.
  • Analyse company spend and use this to identify opportunities for Groupwide Procurement arrangements and cost saving/efficiency opportunities to be delivered. 
  • Work closely with the IT Leadership team to ensure best value IT procurement.
  • Lead the negotiation of large Procurement deals working closely with key stakeholders and subject matter experts from business units to leverage the best deals for the business.
  • Develop and codify negotiation methodologies into a repeatable model that becomes the way we procure and purchase within Saga.
  • Co-ordinate with Group Legal and key stakeholders on contract negotiation and approval.
  • In partnership with Group Legal, develop a contracts database to record all key Group and large business unit contracts to ensure we have a central repository and ability to monitor contractual terms.
  • Monitor how Group Procured contracts are operating in practice and hold suppliers to account for delivering to contract.
  • Create and chair a Procurement forum reporting to the CFO and attended by key Procurement and Purchasing specialists and other stakeholders, to ensure progress on reducing costs and coordinating and sharing best practice across the Group. 
  • Ensure that all procurement practices policies and procedures are continuously developed and integrated across the group in line with regulatory requirements and best practice.
  • Lead cost efficiency programmes on behalf of the CFO and/or Group Executive as required.

The Ideal Candidate

Capability, Knowledge and Experience

  • Strategic capability, able to see the opportunities for this role, scope out how it will operate with the execution capability to make it happen.
  • Demonstrable experience in commercial negotiation and getting highly commercial deals while building strong supplier relationships.
  • Proven change management skills, including the ability to constantly seek out and capitalise on new opportunities.
  • Highly numerate and literate with a strong commercial focus.
  • Well-developed communication and leadership skills, able to operate in a fast decision-making and entrepreneurial environment.
  • High integrity, capable of driving and implementing change.
  • Proven track record of adding value through the delivery of marketing excellence.
  • Ability to deliver credibility, winning the respect and co-operation of colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to fit well within a robust and dynamic senior team through displaying a strong team orientation, and assertive style.

Education and Qualifications

  • Graduate calibre.
  • ACCA/CIMA and/or Procurement Qualification.

  • Highly collaborative & seeks to build strong working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Confidence to challenge to drive best outcomes.
  • Adaptability to adjust and review plans when faced with obstacles and challenges in order to achieve a solution.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced commercial environment.
