At Saga, we are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Insurance Finance team on a 6-month contract.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be working within the AR team across all Saga Insurance entities.

Role Responsibility

As a Financial Accountant you’ll be supporting the Insurance Finance team in all aspects of general ledger accounting, month end close, maintenance of control accounts and reconciliations, working within the AR team and rest of the FR&C team.

You will be accountable for the following areas:

  • Preparation of daily bank account reconciliations.
  • Registering incoming payments into the claims management system.
  • Posting journals in the ledger (DREAM) as required.
  • Raising payments and sending them off for sign offs. 
  • Reviewing and clearing down control accounts
  • Support in the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, especially around month end.
  • Raising ad-hoc invoices

The Ideal Candidate

Our ideal Financial Accountant would come from an accounting background, including experience in journal entries, reconciliations and maintenance of control accounts.

Whilst being part-qualified would be desirable, we would be happy to look at candidates qualified by experience

Other skills and experience required include:

  • Experience working on reconciling large volumes of data.
  • Accounting background, including experience in journal entries, reconciliations and maintenance of control accounts.
  • Strong academics, both GCSEs and A-Levels or equivalents. Preferably degree qualified in a numerate discipline.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a range of colleagues at varying levels
  • Analytically strong with the ability to challenge and interrogate, facilitating the ability to identify anomalies or inconsistencies and pursue these through to a resolution
  • Able to work independently without constant oversight
  • Relish the challenge of working to tight deadlines and during periods of pressure
