And right now, the role of the financial crime business partner is to support Saga in the identification and control of its financial crime risks and build a financial crime risk management framework/culture across the business.

The financial crime business partner will be responsible for providing the business with strategic direction, support, assurance, and technical advice, enabling the business to grow, whilst upholding the standards and requirements set out in both regulation and legislation

Role Responsibility

  • Following our business code of conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
  • Design and maintenance of the financial crime risk management framework
  • Driving exceptional customer outcomes and ensuring this remains at the forefront of business thinking at all times.
  • Driving significant financial crime improvements through a risk management framework
  • Building and managing effective and collaborative relationships with accountable senior managers and their leadership teams.
  • Ensuring appropriate governance and control risk frameworks are embedded in all relevant activities.
  • Representing the Head of Financial Crime & Operational Resilience Risk in meetings, projects and governance committees as required.
  • Acting as a centre of excellence to provide advice and learning.
  • Maintain an ongoing view of business change and be the primary contact for financial crime on new initiatives
  • Seek assurance on financial crime activity and monitor compliance.
  • Responsive and robust financial crime investigations (either personally or with others) drive by expertise and analytics
  • Support transformation projects, or tasks that enhance controls, monitoring systems, analytics, improved policy and procedures, more effective risk management and/or a reduction in costs. 
  • Networking to stay connected with industry and business trends/changes.
  • Promoting a speak up culture across the business and investigating speak-up (including whistleblowing) complaints whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

  • In depth knowledge of financial crime and financial services regulations, in particular Money Laundering Regulations and FCA
  • The ability to navigate, understand and apply the relevant fraud regulations and legislations.
  • An understanding of the control frameworks required to mitigate financial and non-financial risks, including the analytical skills to processes which are needed to support these frameworks.    
  • Someone who clearly understands the concepts of financial crime risk controls and materiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator at all levels.
  • Has a methodical, analytical, enquiring mind and tenacity, whilst maintaining objectivity.
  • Sound use a judgement. Raises and reports only material issues and can agree practical and efficient solutions with business.
  • An understanding of the control frameworks required to mitigate financial and non-financial risks, including the analytical skills to processes which are needed to support these frameworks.    

Desirable qualifications:

  • ICA Certificate in Financial Crime (minimum)
  • ICA Diploma in Financial Crime Prevention (desirable) or similar qualification.
  • Fraud management degree
  • Qualified finance/accounts/audit or risk qualifications
