An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HR Advisor for Tour & Cruise Operations to join our Saga Group team based in Folkestone. 

You will be working within a very busy team who are passionate about our people. The role will involve working alongside multi-functional and multi-location operational business areas and will focus on supporting the delivery of our people agenda.

Reporting to the Senior HR Business Partner you will support leaders at all levels with all people related and employment relations activities across the employee life cycle. You’ll be expected to deliver an efficient yet exceptional level of service and be comfortable to work at pace, whilst also maintaining high levels of compliance and adherence to best practice. 

You will bring a good understanding of HR and employment relations practice as you’ll be expected to support the business areas by providing a range of advice, coaching and support. Given the diverse nature of the business areas you’ll work closely with, you’ll need to be flexible and willing to travel to other sites and locations as required.

Role Responsibility

  • Providing first line support and advice on general HR and ER queries or issues to our people and escalating to senior members of the department where required
  • Proactive support and management of absence across all business areas alongside line managers
  • Support, advise and facilitate comprehensive performance management activity across all business areas
  • Delivery and facilitation of all aspects of ER activity, including disciplinary cases, investigations, grievances and appeals
  • Support our remote operational teams both within and outside of the United Kingdom with proactive advice and support on all HR and ER activity
  • Undertaking research and developing business cases where required in line with our people agenda and strategy
  • Ensuring that operational processes and practices across the business areas are effective, efficient and accurate and constantly looking to make improvements where these will save cost and/or improve service to the business or our customers
  • Support the HR team and business partners with organisational design and change programmes
  • Develop policies, procedures and processes as required and ensure compliance with new legislation and best practice and review existing practices and work with colleagues and our internal customers to determine where improvements can be made
  • Provide ad-hoc reports and interpret MI for the business operational areas or for HR colleagues with due regard for sensitive information / GDPR
  • Appropriate use of HR systems ensuring an accurate and timely service ensuring payroll deadlines are adhered to

The Ideal Candidate

Capability, knowledge and experience

  • A knowledge of the travel industry would be ideal, but not essential
  • Experience of working in an operational environment or with remote working teams would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of best practice HR and associated HR policies and procedures is preferred.
  • A good understanding of employment law and experience of the application of it in practice.
  • Excellent PC skills - e.g. Excel, Word, Powerpoint

Education and qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or relevant business experience
  • CIPD qualification is preferred but not essential

  • Ability to think analytically and provide and explain complex ideas to a range of different stakeholders

  • Ability to work on multiple conflicting workloads with pace and transparency
  • Flexibility to travel
