A great opportunity has arisen for a Head of AICL Pricing to join our AICL business. This is an important role within AICL to help and support both the AICL & CHMC functions of the business.

You will be leading a programme of continuous development and evolution of pricing models, applying established actuarial techniques and statistical methods. As well as overseeing the use of data enrichment for risk pricing and superior risk selection.

You'll bring experience of programming languages such as SQL, VBA and R.

    Role Responsibility

    • Lead a programme of continuous development and evolution of pricing models, applying established actuarial techniques and statistical methods.
    • Oversee the use of data enrichment for risk pricing and superior risk selection.
    • Lead pricing innovation by adopting appropriate machine learning techniques in the modelling process.
    • Lead and manage the Pricing team, with a heavy emphasis on a high-performance culture, development and team spirit by: 
    • Managing, encouraging and developing team members.
    • Organising and delegating work effectively.
    • Having the courage and clarity to challenge and manage poor performance where necessary.
    • Managing different levels and ambitions of individual team members and keeping engagement levels high.
    • Acting as a role model for the rest of the team.
    • ​Act as deputy for the Pricing Director and support the CEO through a dotted line whenever needed.
    • Lead dynamic footprint expansion initiative.
    • Develop further analysis and recommendations for areas such as conversion/retention, market price analysis and panel elasticity.
    • Lead and deliver analysis required for new products.
    • Work closely and build relationships between the Pricing team and wider AICL teams (UW, Finance and Claims), CHMC and SSL to enhance knowledge sharing, efficiency and productivity.
    • Work closely and build cross-working with SSL on joint insurance initiatives to enhance group value, particularly focusing on the relationship with the London Actuarial team.
    • Work closely with the Reserving and Solvency 2 functions, providing support in the practical delivery of internal and regulatory reporting.
    • Manage any risks or controls delegated to this position as detailed in the relevant risk registers, in line with the business's risk policy.
    • Leading project work is likely to form a significant part of the role, and will require accurate, complete and timely delivery.

    The tangible outputs that this role produces are:

    • Improved net rate structure and ensuring these are accurate.
    • Achieving loss ratio targets and implementing pricing actions when necessary.
    • Increased profitable footprint expansion.
    • Improved monitoring processes which leads to further actionable insights.
    • Improved forecasting and budgeting.
    • Clear output in line with project goals.

    The Ideal Candidate

    Capability, Knowledge and experience:

    • Proven track record of building successful and robust teams.
    • Experience of managing a team across multiple locations.
    • Detailed knowledge of General Insurance pricing processes and methodologies, as well as actuarial reserving techniques.
    • Comfortable with traditional GLM techniques with a willingness to embrace new and emerging data analytics methods/tools.
    • Experience of programming languages such as SQL, VBA and R.
    • Experienced with ResQ and Emblem or similar systems.

    Education and qualifications:

    • Experienced qualified actuary.
    • Experience in managing a team.
