Right now, we are looking for an Insurance Risk Manager to support the Insurance Risk Leadership team in the development, implementation and oversight of the Risk Management Framework across Saga Insurance.
As an Insurance Risk Manager, you will be responsible for leading day-to-day on all aspects of risk. You will possess excellent risk management, personal, organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with business stakeholders across multiple entities and levels of seniority.
Role Responsibility
- Supporting, and leading where required, the design, implementation, and oversight of the enterprise risk management framework for the Saga Insurance BU.
- As part of the above, monitoring and overseeing the efficiency and effectiveness of the risk policy and processes, including risk and control assessment and analysis in the Insurance BU.
- Ensuring that Board approved risk appetite statements with supporting KRIs are regularly reviewed, updated, reported on and acted on.
- Ensuring the Insurance BU captures risk data in accordance with Risk Policies to help inform the decision-making process concerning cost effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Identifying, developing, and deploying appropriate risk management tools, techniques and strategies to ensure risk management across the Insurance BU is value adding and contributes towards the overall strategy/strategic delivery and performance of the business.
- Actively promoting a risk culture of care that encourages appropriate risk taking, aligned to strategy and risk appetite, with effective and timely response to risk events according to the risk they present to the business.
- Ensuring Insurance management have a sound understanding of the Risk Management Framework through formal training, informal discussion, online tools, policies, and guidance documents.
- Providing second line of defence support, challenge, and guidance regarding financial matters within the Insurance BU and including meeting regulatory obligations where relevant.
- Ensuring there is an open and collaborative relationship with both the first, second and third line of defence teams.
- Reviewing and maintaining delivery of appropriate risk governance, through participation in risk committees and other governance committees, where risk engagement is required.
- Providing second line of defence review and challenge of risk reporting.
- Producing risk papers for relevant Operating Entities as required.
- Supporting the monitoring of industry trends to benchmark risk management practices and track external best practices relevant for the Insurance BU.
- Drafting policies and coordinating risk content for key reports such as the Annual Report and Accounts, ORSA or TC2.4.
- Providing second line reviews of key projects and products within the business to ensure positive customer and business outcomes.

- Highly organised and methodical, with the ability to prioritise a multitude of tasks and deadlines, whilst working accurately under pressure.
- Flexible approach, personable and able to embrace change.

- Financially literate and analytical in an insurance governance context.
- Able to build strong stakeholder relationships across the business.
- Demonstrable competence in writing clear and concise executive summaries and producing performance packs for senior management.
- Maintains discretion, confidentiality and professionalism.
- Positive outlook, with a solution-centric approach.
- Excellent communication skills across all business levels.
- The ability to foster a positive culture that prioritises good customer outcomes and shows high levels of engagement with the wider business.
- Ability to see the broader picture and recognise the effects of actions/problems on all areas of the business.
- Effective use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and good general IT literacy.
- At least 5 years relevant industry risk experience.
- Risk Accountancy, Data Management or similar preferable.
- Proven track record of working effectively through change with senior management on the risk agenda.
- Experience of working with Data Governance and with DPO frameworks.
Awareness of commercial and regulatory considerations within an Insurance context.
