Lead Copywriter

Right now we are looking for for an experienced hands-on copywriter who thrives on consistently delivering great copy and experiences to colleagues and customers alike. In this role you will work as part of an established team of copywriters, working across Saga’s Ocean and River cruise portfolio at a truly exciting time for our brand.
You’ll report to the Copy Manager and work closely with both our in-house creative team and marketing department, and occasionally external agencies as required so previous experience in a similar role is crucial.

Role Responsibility
- You will be responsible for writing and proofreading a wide range of materials for our multi-channel marketing, including – but not limited to – direct mail brochures and leaflets, press and online advertising, landing pages, emails, as well as both product and destination content.
- Write clear, persuasive, original copy that reflects Saga’s tone of voice.
- Clearly articulate and present ideas to generate excitement.
- Research and write content, including product copy, articles and/or advertising to drive traffic across all areas of Marketing.
- Collaborate with our designers and digital team on creative briefs to generate excellent creative concepts and share ideas that work seamlessly across offline and online channels.
- Amend, revise, or develop copy in response to feedback from our Marketing team and key stakeholders, including external agencies and partners.
- Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment owning and managing several projects at once.
- Proofread copy ensuring Saga’s high standards and brand guidelines are met.
- Demonstrate understanding of consumer insights that can help drive creative solutions.
- Keep up to date with competitor activity and marketing trends, and demonstrate how they can be integrated into our marketing activity.
The Ideal Candidate
Knowledge/Experience
- Solid experience of writing copy in agencies, publishers or in-house roles.
- Accurate proofreading of detailed copy across multiple channels.
- Excellent communication skills and a meticulous eye for detail.
- Willing and able to challenge colleagues in an empathetic and professional manner.
- Good time management, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- The ability to minimise marketing and legal jargon to create conversational copy which engages with the audience.
- Experience of implementing self-prompted research in current/upcoming industry trends and best-practice ways of working.
- Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously, across a diverse range of content types, e.g. T&Cs, print and digital ads, online/direct mailing and policy books.
- A positive, can-do approach to creative challenges and keen to find solutions.
- Some experience within emerging media and performance-oriented brand copywriting.
- Experience within the travel industry would be beneficial.
- Ability to work proactively and independently, and as part of a team.
- Working in a manner that is in line with Saga’s company values at all times.
- Naturally curious and creative individual - able to think around problems with confidence and empathy.
- High levels of drive, enthusiasm, and creative energy
- Strives for perfection and continuous improvement.
Technical
- Degree in English, or equivalent copywriting experience in a professional capacity.
- Highly skilled in relevant software, including Microsoft packages and Adobe Acrobat.
- Knowledge of SEO and UX writing beneficial
- Professional experience using Adobe InDesign is desireable
