This role is an important part of the Payroll Team who strive to facilitate, to help and support the HR function of the business.

You will be assisting the provision of a comprehensive payroll and benefits service whilst providing administrative support within a high achieving and professional team.

It is essential that the ideal candidate has payroll experience and it is desirable that this includes Foreign payroll experience.

You will bring a high level of accuracy and numeracy with great IT skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.

Role Responsibility

Department Function: 

• To ensure that all employees are paid accurately and on time.
• To ensure that the Company complies with all statutory legislation and provide advice and guidance as appropriate.
• To provide an effective and efficient service to its customers, both internally and externally.

The primary tasks of this role are:

• To assist, within a team environment, in the operation of the normal processing cycle to ensure that employees are paid accurately and on time, including:


i) To support the Senior Payroll Officers in processing all information and instructions received, ensuring that appropriate authorisations have been obtained, and action correctly
ii) To assist in controlling the timely interfacing of data from the HR database and other databases
iii) To ensure that all statutory payments and deductions are made appropriately and accurately (including SSP, SMP, Income Tax, National Insurance and court orders)
iv) To monitor the payroll inbox and action all enquiries appropriately
v) To respond to and action all on-line payslip enquiries on a daily basis within the departments SLAs
vi) To assist in providing management information on both a regular and ad-hoc basis.
vii) To deal with any employee enquires appropriately in a timely manner
viii) To keep all payroll records up to date
ix) To provide general support within the Department.

The Ideal Candidate

Capability, Knowledge and Experience:

• High level of accuracy and numeracy.
• Good PC skills including detailed knowledge of spreadsheets.
• Ability to work to strict deadlines in a time-critical environment.
• Ability to communicate at all levels.
• Must be methodical with a proactive approach to tasks and priorities
• Demonstrate ability to deal with people in a calm and professional manner and be able to resolve issues raised
• Pragmatic problem solver 
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience of work within a payroll department covering main areas of payroll administration

Education and Qualifications:

• Educated to A level standard including maths and English; ideally degree level.

Personal Characteristics:

• Ability to work to strict deadlines in a time-critical environment.
• Excellent time management and the ability to deal with several tasks at once.
• Demonstrable competence of providing efficient admin support.
• Flexible approach to working hours and visiting other sites from time to time.
• Good standard of secondary education.
• Strong team player with a “can do” and pragmatic approach to problem solving & identification of solutions
