The role is based in the SID team and will ultimately form part of the SSL Change Delivery Unit. This role includes responsibility for estimating, designing, scripting and executing automation test scripts for a variety of key customer facing and internal applications using the chosen test automation software, across the web and SID platforms.

Maintaining these scripts is also a key part of the role so that these can be utilised for full regression checks, whilst demonstrating the benefits of extended and expanded use of automated tools, allowing effective, efficient and quality testing that delivers savings against manual testing.

Role Responsibility

  • Constant communication with Scrum Coordinator, test and development teams to develop a strong understanding of the changes, testing objectives, and progress
  • Contribute to sprint planning sessions and challenge acceptance criteria specifications where appropriate
  • Generate and maintain scripts to perform automated testing cycles that fulfil business requirements
  • Identify known defects and include scenarios in test scripts to reduce risk of these
  • Document, track and escalate defects in development packages as appropriate
  • Report and record against ongoing and completed tasks at least daily
  • To use test tools as part of test processes and to be proactive in investigating ways to improve efficiency
  • To complete test items within the time frames provided
  • To demonstrate testing to business leads for task acceptance
  • To liaise with all interested parties on a change to assess and agree specific testing requirements
  • Contribute to QA meetings to share and improve knowledge across the department
  • To communicate with the QA Tech leads before creating custom actions/or any scripting outside of Axe
  • To follow scripting and testing best practices requirements
  • To ensure knowledge of business processes is kept current
  • To be prepared to take on additional tasks as and when requested
  • To be prepared to complete additional hours to maintain target release dates
  • The successful individual may be required to complete a set amount of late night releases, failovers, power downs and disaster recoveries outside of standard business hours

The Ideal Candidate

Capability, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Excellent product and business knowledge
  • A technical background or experience of scripting skills/test automation tools would be an advantage but not essential (AXE)
  • Knowledge of version control would be an advantage but not essential (SourceTree)
  • Excellent business knowledge (product and processes)
  • Technical knowledge in scripting/coding will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Selenium Webdriver using Java
  • Good knowledge of HTML, Xpaths and regular expressions

Education and Qualifications:

  • Business experience in an insurance-based environment would be an advantage

  • Ability to investigate and fix causes of script failure
