Risk Assurance Consultant

Job Introduction

Reporting to the Head of Risk, as the Risk Assurance Consultant you’ll work closely with the risk function management to support the implementation and oversight of the Saga Risk Management Framework across all business units and enterprise functions.

You’ll have good industry experience with a proven track record of delivery, combined with a good risk management, audit or compliance skillset. You’ll have a genuine passion risk management a strong desire to keep up to with industry developments and best practice in respect of operational risk and other risk types.

You shall be a team player that is proactive and collaborates closely with business stakeholders across both enterprise functions and business units and the wider Risk & Compliance team.

Role Responsibility

  • Support the development and promotion of the risk framework to meet business needs and keep pace with best practice, including the delivery of the annual risk plan.
  • Conduct risk analysis, including root cause(s), on identified and emerging risks, highlighting areas for improvement and working with the business to accept recommendations and agree a plan to deliver, including oversight of successful completion.
  • Implement good risk management practice applying internal and external risk principles.
  • Support the facilitation of the identification, capture, reporting and management of emerging risks across the Saga.
  • Supply risk management training to the 1st line and 2nd line as required by the business to ensure there is the right level of understanding of risk management theory and application, including but not limited to areas such as top risk identification and reporting, risk scoring, incident reporting, risk register completion, control testing and risk appetites.
  • Act as a point of expert guidance to the wider business on specific aspects of the risk framework.
  • Support the Head of Enterprise Risk to conduct Independent review & challenge of risk system usage, incident management and risk and control registers to ensure policy requirements are being met and any gaps identified and communicated back to the business.
  • Produce reports detailing your findings from any risk analysis conducted, including recommendations, in a style that clearly articulates the most critical issues to allow management to prioritise its response accordingly.
  • Attend risk committees, meetings, governance forums and working groups, leading where required, to provide independent line 2 review and challenge on the subject of those meetings.
  • Support the production of risk reporting for Saga plc, ELT and business unit risk committees and Boards.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Relevant risk, compliance, audit or similar experience in a relevant industry.
  • Strong track record of working with management of all levels effectively and professionally.
  • Qualification in risk management or similar area, or willingness to achieve such qualification within first 18 months in role.
