And right now, we are seeking a research data specialist to support the Saga Insight team with the identification, analysis and interpretation of research survey datasets, both those produced by Saga and externally by ONS and others.

You will provide timely, accurate and clearly-communicated analysis of quantitative research data. This job will be a key part of the Insights function providing intelligent data analysis to support the business. 

Role Responsibility

  • Statistical analysis of large research survey datasets, both Saga and external.
  • Lead person, or superuser, of Q or equivalent statistical software package.
  • Identifying appropriate external data sources of relevance to Saga.
  • Reconciling different data sources and providing a rationale for those differences.
  • Managing the Saga ‘Fact Pack’ – a summary of key statistics on the UK 50+ market, used by senior management and others.
  • Identifying key trends in the 50+ demographic and the markets of interest to Saga
  • Responding to, sometimes urgent, requests from senior management and others for summaries and updates about 50+ consumers and their purchasing or other behaviour.
  • Communicating the results of any analysis in a way that non-researchers find unambiguous and easy to understand.
  • Collaborating with other members of the Saga Insight team and colleagues at the Big Window (an insight agency wholly owned by Saga).
  • Advising on sample design, weighting and grossing of Saga quantitative surveys.
  • Helping to ensure that Saga’s collective understanding of customers and markets is soundly based in evidence.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Understanding of all aspects of quantitative research, including the effects of data-collection mode, sample sources, question design etc
  • Highly skilled in statistical analysis eg regression, factor and cluster, CHAID, Principal Components etc
  • Experience of software such as SPSS, Q, Stata etc
  • Influencing and communication skills - viewed as a trusted advisor and voice of the customer in the business; ability to build rapport and trust with non-researchers; willingness to challenge perceived wisdoms in a way that is likely to be accepted and acted upon.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy; with the ability to distil large amounts of data into easily digestible outputs.
  • Able to ‘see the wood for the trees’ and to identify and communicate the key messages.
  • Well organised and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Literate in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience of infographic production highly desirable.
  • Research data analysis experience; ideally gained at an insight agency or in an equivalent client-side role
  • Experience of financial services and/or travel markets desirable but not essential
