And right now, we are looking for a Senior Solicitor in our Group Professional Services part of our insurance business at an exciting time in Saga’s history. As a Group, Saga is taking to the seas in our brand new, luxury cruise ships and leading the market with innovative insurance and financial products. 

You will provide expert legal advice and regulatory support to all levels of the Saga Group, including the Executive Leadership Team, and Senior Management Team in relation to a broad range of legal matters, of increasing complexity. To support the growth of Saga Group ensuring the delivery of a first class commercial and legal service in a dynamic, competitive, and ever evolving business environment.

Role Responsibility

  • Providing autonomous legal advice and professional judgment and support in relation to a broad range of legal issues, often with high complexity, to senior stakeholders across the business with a particular emphasis on legal advice, solutions, and support in relation to complex issues that have a broad impact on the business including the structuring of transactions and providing direction in the resolution of disputes.
  • Providing legal advice and professional judgment and acting as legal project lead on complex projects that can range from short projects to longer term projects.
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts of varying complexity.
  • Providing advice in relation to customer documentation and complaints.
  • Influencing and encouraging the business to take account of legal and reputational risk.
  • Drafting, reviewing, providing guidance, and training on and ensuring compliance with internal Saga legal policies.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior members of the team, whether paralegals, Trainee Solicitors or Solicitors, ensuring a transfer of key knowledge, skills, and experienced best practice.
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the legal team, other departments, the wider business, and subsidiaries in providing a fully integrated service across the Saga Group.
  • Effectively managing external counsel to ensure that the appropriate counsel is selected, and a cost effective and high-quality service is delivered within the agreed budget.
  • Effectively managing relationships with key stakeholders, including legal colleagues, businesses and Group functions and key suppliers.
  • Ensuring legal knowledge and awareness of industry developments remain up to date in terms of current and planned legislative changes and relevant parts of the business are advised accordingly with any relevant actions taken to ensure continued legal compliance for Saga Group.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A qualified solicitor, barrister, or inter-national equivalent, able to demonstrate varied and sound legal experience, preferably having City/London experience or significant in-house experience.
  • Play a full role within the Group Legal Team and be able to manage a full and varied workload autonomously, with minimal direction of the manager.
  • Excellent literacy and reasonable numeracy skills together with a competent and confident level of under-standing of Microsoft Software packages
  • Strong commercial acumen is essential.
