As a Solutions Architect at Saga, you’ll play a key role in turning ambitious business ideas into practical, scalable technology solutions. Working at the heart of our Technology team, you’ll help shape how our systems, platforms and services come together to support our customers and our strategic priorities.

You’ll partner with business leaders, technology teams and delivery colleagues to understand what we’re trying to achieve, then design the technology solutions that can make it happen. From making important architectural decisions to navigating technical risks and ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and fit for the future, you’ll have a real influence on how Saga evolves.

In this broad and varied role, you’ll support across Saga Plc, partnering with teams across our Travel, Insurance and Publishing businesses, solving complex problems and seeing your ideas move from concept to reality. You’ll join us at a pivotal point in our technology transformation as you contribute to the growth of our architectural function. 

We work in a hybrid way at Saga, both at home and in the office. This role requires you to have an ad hoc presence in both our Folkestone and London offices once or twice a month, allowing us to collaborate and share success as a business.

Role Responsibility

As a Solution Architect, you will be responsible for defining end-to-end solution architectures that align with business objectives, technology strategy and architectural standards.

Other accountabilities will include:

•    Producing and maintaining solution architecture artefacts, including high-level and detailed designs, integration patterns, data flows and deployment models.

•    Ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, supportable and cost-effective throughout their lifecycle.

•    Evaluating technology options and make informed design recommendations based on business value, risk, and long-term sustainability.

•    Reviewing and approving solution designs through established governance and assurance processes.

•    Identifying, assessing, and managing architecture risks, assumptions, dependencies and technical constraints.

•    Ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture principles, security policies, regulatory requirements and technology standards.

•    Contributing to the continuous improvement of architecture frameworks, governance processes and standards. 

•    Acting as the architectural lead across change initiatives, supporting successful delivery from concept through to implementation

•    Supporting planning, estimation and delivery activities by providing architectural guidance and technical expertise.

•    Translating complex technical concepts into clear and actionable information for both technical and non-technical audiences.

•    Influencing decision-making through evidence-based recommendations and effective communications.

•    Presenting solution options, risks and recommendations to governance forums and senior stakeholders.

•    Promoting architecture best practice, modern engineering principles and design excellence across technology teams.

•    Supporting the development and adoption of reusable patterns, reference architectures and architectural standards.

•    Working with third-party suppliers and partners to ensure external solutions align with architectural standards and business requirements.

•    Reviewing supplier proposals, technical designs and implementation approach to ensure quality and value for money.

The Ideal Candidate

As our new Solution Architect, you will have proven experience delivering quality technical designs on time and to an appropriate level of detail and quality.

Ideally, you will come with architectural experience within a regulated industry, however we are open to considering candidates with an appetite for learning and growing with the role.

Other skills and experience required includes:

•    Experience in technical analysis of complex systems

•    Exposure to EA frameworks including TOGAF

•    Experience with Azure

•    Exposure to DevOps tooling

•    System integration design

•    Understand of route-to-live and environment requirements and design

•    Ideally have a Degree in Technology, Engineering, or another related field

•    Experience in agile, product-led, or hybrid delivery environments
