Job Introduction
Subeditor
Salary up to £38,000
Permanent
FT or PT
Hybrid or home-based*
Do you have an eye for detail, understand how to craft a sentence that is a pleasure to read, love checking facts and always meet deadlines? You could be the person we’re looking for to join our growing editorial team. Working as a Subeditor for Saga Exceptional, you will play a key role in delivering timely, well-written and authoritative content for the readers of Exceptional.com. This content will be high quality, invariably accurate, and offering something unique and insightful to our over-50s audience.
As a passionate Subeditor, you will help to make every article as good as it can be, editing original content on a whole range of topics for our exciting new site, working closely with our Managing Editor as well as the Editors in Chief and other Saga Media colleagues.
You might be working on content related to fitness, homes, gardens, or tech – so experience or a personal interest in at least one of these topics could be an advantage.
You’ll be editing everything from the inspirational and aspirational to more practical how-to and tips features, as well as easily digestible buying guides, informative how to articles, in-depth explainers and best-in-class reviews. You’ll be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, including acting as a source of best practice on SEO and all aspects of grammar and writing.
Every article should be edited with the experienced Saga Exceptional audience in mind – addressing their passions, curiosities and needs. You’ll be able to polish a sentence until it sparkles, as well as ensuring that every piece is well structured, answers readers’ questions, and achieves its aim. You’ll ensure that SEO best practice is followed, and, of course, make sure that everything we publish is accurate and a reliable source.
** Flexible working ** This role can be either home-based, or in our London (King’s Cross) office if you prefer. We believe in the power of being together, so you will be expected to attend our monthly team days, usually in our London office. Applications for less than 35 hours a week will be considered - talk to us about what flexibility is available at the application or interview stage. And please get in touch if you need any adjustments to the recruitment process, at either application or interview.

You will be responsible for the following areas:
- Ensuring that articles published to Exceptional.com are accurate and well-written.
- Help to develop the skills of writers in the team.
- Uploading and publishing content in our CMS (Wordpress).
- Upholding the standards laid out in the style guide and other guides for producing quality content and updating these as needed.
