Job Introduction

At Saga, we’re undergoing a transformation and are looking to re-invent our marketing model. We’ve invested heavily in new technology and implementation is coming to a close. As a result we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager to join our department and set up a brand new team.

We’re changing the way we work. We’re setting up a new Customer Value management team which will be made up of two parts; 1/ Targeting Strategy, comprised of analysts providing intel informing who we target when and with what, 2/ Targeting Operations, a team of CRM marketers tasked with executing and improving all outgoing marketing for the Group.

You will set up and run the Targeting Strategy team aiming to increase customer value. Your team will provide the analysis and insight into the Targeting Operations Team’s marketing performance to help them drive more value. Your team will create standardised MI and reporting for Campaigns. They will run SQL analysis and create propensity models to improve targeting. They will have direct access to Adobe Campaign for moving data in and out to make rapid targeting improvements. You will manage the Group Contact Strategy to optimise how often we contact which customers with what message via which channel. You will also help drive the creation, and management of, our new Next-Best-Action decisioning engine. This will involve working with stakeholders and technology partners to determine scope out, targeting rules, testing approach, measurement and optimisation. You will also work on Data Science projects and will need to source and secure specialist assistance as required

You will need to build the new team and work through transitional changes with the Targeting Operations Manager to implement processes and working practices. You’ll need to ensure your new team are trained, engaged and empowered to deliver improved value using new thinking and new technology.

We’re looking for someone with strong analysis skills and a systematic approach to driving improvements. You will need to be able to manage a team effectively, and provide vision both to your direct reports and to colleagues across the Saga Group.

Role Responsibility

  • Build and lead a team of experienced SQL analysts, modellers & web analysts
  • Ensure staff are trained and supported in their transition
  • Amend processes as needed ensuring minimal disruption
  • Provide technical and QA support during the migration of existing divisional marketing campaigns to Adobe Campaign to enable the decommission of legacy marketing tools (Discus, Audrey, MaxEmail)
  • Manage the creation of MI & Reporting for marketing campaigns ensuring timeliness
  • Ensure analysts standardise and automate processes as far as possible to make the best use of time
  • Oversee the creation of propensity models for targeting mailings, emails and in-visit offers
  • Drive the optimisation of the Contact Strategy – this will involve creating data to feed to Adobe, setting rules, running tests, measuring results and making recommendations for changes to settings
  • Oversee the creation of new online dashboards in Adobe Analytics
  • Provide insight into online customer recognition to drive improvements to ID’ing levels
  • Support the creation of Next-Best-Action engine – this will involve working with stakeholders to gather scope and requirements, working with technology partners, creating data inputs, working with operational teams to implement, running tests, measuring results and making recommendations to optimise results.
  • Drive the team to deliver a robust test-and-learn program across initiatives
  • Work closely with the Targeting Operations team to drive improved Customer Value
  • Present ideas to colleagues across the business
  • Promote excellence and best practice in Analytics and data modelling
  • Ensure progress updates, results and performance analysis shared with key stakeholders
  • Managing multiple complex projects concurrently, tracking progress and success
  • Work with suppliers on Data Science projects

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous management experience
  • A good understanding of digital and direct marketing, particularly the use of data
  • Highly numerate, logical and analytical
  • Very good excel skills
  • SQL experience desirable
  • Data Modelling experience desirable
  • Experience with Adobe Marketing Cloud tools desirable
  • Experience presenting solutions to large groups of people with varied knowledge and understanding
  • Ability to breakdown complex information and present it in an easy to understand way
  • Experience in A/B testing desirable
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills
  • Excellent Track record in delivering change and completing projects
  • Good understand of implementing tracking URL’s, delivering cookies to web pages from email
  • Experience working to tight timelines in a project environment, able to prioritise
  • Experience working across complex businesses and managing different stakeholders
  • Good understanding of Saga’s current systems and processes desirable
  • Some knowledge of the over 50s market desirable
  • Very strong work ethic – there’s an awful lot to do and some short timeframes – need to be deadline driven and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines
