As a Development Underwriting Analyst, you will be responsible for supporting AICL footprint development through effective analysis of underwriting and pricing data along with underwriting risk control measures to ensure technical results meet or exceed business plan performance criteria.

Role Responsibility

  • Support the Head of Underwriting and Development Underwriting Manager with primary responsibility for the profitable growth of the motor and home books.
  • Proficient use of in SQL, Snowflake, Radar, Tableau and Excel, and use where appropriate in pulling relevant information from large amounts of data to aid in developing recommendations.
  • Support the development of the product and underwriting strategy, by identifying and anticipating potential business opportunities and risks (e.g. vulnerable customers).
  • Work with pricing and data teams to carry out detailed analysis of MI and account performance statistics, reporting on the results and making recommendations on changes to risk profile, product cover, acceptance criteria and underwriting footprint.
  • Monitor external market conditions (Consumer Intelligence, Defaqto) and competitor pricing & underwriting strategies to feed into weekly trading meeting.
  • Analysing the use of external data to assist in improving risk selection and reducing fraud.

The Ideal Candidate

Experience:

  • Awareness and understanding of SQL code (or equivalent), risk pricing and modelling techniques and relevant software.
  • Detailed knowledge of SQL, Radar, Tableau, or similar systems.
  • Good understanding of general insurance account management (desirable).
  • Good understanding of the UK insurance market (desirable).
  • Awareness of the regulatory and legal framework which the market operates (desirable).
  • Good understanding of the various distribution channels and their separate customer and risk profiles.

Skills:

  • Strong numerical and statistical capabilities.
  • Comfortable working with large amounts of data utilising coding knowledge to analyse and present findings.
  • Ability to influence using sound judgement and technical knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
