…And right now, we are looking for an Underwriting Analyst within our AICL part of the business at an exciting time in Saga’s history. As a Group, Saga is taking to the seas in our brand new, luxury cruise ships and leading the market with innovative insurance and financial products.   

You will be responsible for supporting AICL footprint development through effective analysis and underwriting risk controls to ensure technical results meet or exceed business plan performance criteria. As well as reviewing and analysing market trends, new products, or brands to provide oversight on impacts or opportunities to AICL.

Role Responsibility

As an Underwriter Analyst your top 5 responsibilities will be:  

  • Support the Head of Underwriting and Development Underwriting Lead with primary responsibility for the profitable growth of the motor and home books. 

  • Support the development of the product and underwriting strategy, by identifying and anticipating potential business opportunities and risks (e.g., vulnerable customers). 

  • Work with pricing and data teams to carry out detailed analysis of MI and account performance statistics, reporting on the results and making recommendations on changes to risk profile, product cover, acceptance criteria and underwriting footprint. 

  • Monitor external market conditions (Consumer Intelligence, Defaqto) and competitor pricing & underwriting strategies to feed into weekly trading meeting. 

  • Analysing the use of external data to assist in improving risk selection and reducing fraud. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong numerical and statistical capabilities 

  • Comfortable working with large amounts of data 

  • Ability to influence using sound judgement and technical knowledge 

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing 

  • Self-motivation and organisational skills

  • Trading mentality 

  • Commercially aware 

  • Good understanding of general insurance account management 

  • Awareness and understanding of risk pricing and modelling techniques and software  

  • Good understanding of the various distribution channels and their separate customer and risk profiles 

  • Good understanding of the UK insurance market 

  • Awareness of the regulatory and legal framework which the market operates 

  • Detailed knowledge of Radar, Tableau, or similar systems
