And right now, we are looking for an Underwriting Analyst to join our Underwriting Insurance team at an exciting time in Saga’s history.

As a Group, Saga is taking to the seas in our brand new, luxury cruise ships and leading the market with innovative insurance and financial products. Reporting into the Development Underwriting Manager you will be responsible for supporting AICL footprint development through to effective analysis of underwriting and pricing data along with underwriting risk control measures to ensure technical results meet or exceed business plan performance criteria.

You will be responsible for reviewing and analysing market trends (Consumer Intelligence, eBenchmarkers, Defaqto) and new products or brands, such as multi car insurance and telematics etc. to provide oversight on impacts or opportunities to AICL. You will also be responsible for running underwriting reports to aid the BAU functions of the wider Underwriting team.

Role Responsibility

  • Conduct analysis of data to aid in the profitable growth of the motor and home books.
  • Have a working knowledge/understanding of SQL, Snowflake, Radar, Tableau and Excel (or equivalent), and use where appropriate in developing recommendations.
  • Support the development of the product and underwriting strategy, by identifying and anticipating potential business opportunities and risks (such as vulnerable customers).
  • Work with pricing and data teams to carry out detailed analysis of MI and account performance statistics.
  • Monitor external market conditions to feed into weekly trading meeting.
  • Work with the fraud team to detect and remove unwanted, suspicious, and potentially fraudulent business at application stage.
  • Work with Underwriting teams to improve customer journeys and reduce reliance on referrals.

The Ideal Candidate

  • SQL coding knowledge and understanding (or equivalent) such as SQL, Radar, Tableau, or similar systems would be required.
  • Comfortable working with large amounts of data utilising coding knowledge to analyse and present findings.
  • To communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Good understanding of general insurance account management and in-depth knowledge of the insurance UK market
  • An understanding of insurance risk profiles
  • Awareness of the regulatory and legal framework which the market operates.
